Ingredients
- 4 cube steaks
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 1 cup button mushrooms, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pint beef broth or stock
- 1 Tbsp thyme
- 1 Tbsp rosemary
- 1oz Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup flour
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 1 Tbsp oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350, and a cast iron pan to medium heat.
- Coat cube steaks in flour, season with salt and pepper, and brown evenly on both sides.
- Remove steaks from pan, and saute onions and mushrooms. Once they have started to brown, add garlic, rosemary, and thyme, and cook an additional 5 minutes.
- Return steaks to pan with the mushrooms and onions, cover with beef broth, add Worcestershire sauce, and more salt and pepper if necessary.
- Place the cast iron pan in the oven and cook for appx 30 minutes, until gravy has come together, and steaks are tender.
Chef’s Tip
If you prefer a thicker gravy, add more flour to the onion and mushroom recipe at the same time as the garlic and herbs. This will cook the flour slightly, giving it a robust flavor, and prevent clumping!
